Why I built Neko Sensei
I fell in love with manga pretty early in my Japanese learning journey. But honestly, it was also the most frustrating part.
The beginner stuff I could actually read? Boring. Like, really boring. Simple stories that felt more like textbook exercises than real manga. And the manga I actually wanted to read, the ones with amazing stories and real dialogue, were way too hard for me.
So I’d do this awkward dance: read a panel, get stuck, open Google Translate, copy the text, try to make sense of the result, maybe ask ChatGPT for help, then scroll back to find where I was. Over and over. It completely killed the rhythm and honestly, it just stopped being fun.
I kept thinking, why doesn’t something exist that just lets me read the manga I love with help built right in? No switching apps, no copy-pasting, no losing my place.
So I built it. Neko Sensei gives you furigana when you need it, instant translations on tap, and vocabulary that actually sticks because you learned it inside a story you care about. Learning Japanese should feel like play, not work.
