Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

• Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name and email address.
• Authentication Data: We use Supabase Auth to manage sign-in. Depending on the method you choose (Google, Apple, or email), we receive basic profile information from the authentication provider.
• Profile Information: Any display name, profile photo, learning goals, or study preferences you choose to add.
• Learning Progress: The decks and words you study, your review history and answers, scheduling data used for spaced repetition, streaks, and experience points. This is what lets us show you the right word at the right time.
• Words You Request:When you look up or add a word that isn't already in our library, we record the term so we can build a card for it.
• Conversations with Neko: If you use the in-app AI chat, we store your messages and the replies so you can return to a conversation later.
• Usage and Diagnostic Data: We automatically collect information about how you interact with the app, including features used and session activity, along with crash reports and error diagnostics containing your device model, operating system version, and app version.
• Push Notification Tokens: If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can send study reminders. You can turn these off at any time in the app or in your device settings.
• Creator Content: If you apply to or participate in our Manga Creator Program, we collect the information and content you submit.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Neko Sensei application
• Schedule your reviews and track your learning progress
• Personalize your study experience and content recommendations
• Generate vocabulary cards for words you request
• Manage your account and authenticate your identity
• Send study reminders, if you have enabled them
• Diagnose crashes and fix bugs
• Facilitate the Manga Creator Program
• Communicate with you about updates, features, and support
• Monitor and analyze usage trends to improve our services

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Artificial Intelligence

Neko Sensei uses third-party AI services to generate vocabulary content and to power the in-app chat with Neko. When you request a word that isn't in our library, that word is sent to our AI provider so a card can be generated. When you chat with Neko, your messages are sent to our AI provider to produce a reply. We do not send your name, email address, or account identifiers along with these requests, and our providers are contractually prohibited from using this data to train their models. Vocabulary cards generated this way become part of our shared content library and may be shown to other learners; they are not linked to you.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using Supabase, which hosts our database, authentication, and file storage on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the United States. We rely on industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit and at rest, and row-level access rules that keep your learning data readable only by your account. While we implement reasonable safeguards, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Neko Sensei:

• Supabase: Authentication, database, and file storage
• OpenAI: Vocabulary content generation and the in-app chat with Neko
• Sentry: Crash reporting and error diagnostics
• Expo: Delivery of push notifications and app updates
• Google and Apple: Sign-in, if you choose one of those methods, and app distribution

These services have their own privacy policies governing the use of your information. We encourage you to review them.

Data Retention

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently erase your personal information and learning history. Vocabulary cards that were generated from words you requested remain in our shared content library, but they are no longer associated with you. Backups and crash diagnostics may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.

Children's Privacy

Neko Sensei is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@nekosensei.com.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Opt out of certain data processing activities

You can delete your account and all of your learning data yourself at any time, from Settings → Account → Delete account in the app. To exercise any of the other rights above, please contact us at hello@nekosensei.com. We will respond to your request within 30 days. You can also reach us through our support page.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page and notify you through the application or by email. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
